Description

Mayabunder is situated in the northern part of Middle Andaman, approximately 242 km away from Port Blair. It is a tranquil destination with fewer tourist spots compared to its neighboring islands. What sets Mayabunder apart is its cultural diversity, influenced by the presence of settlers from Bangladesh and East Pakistan, ex-convicts, and the Karen, a Burmese hill tribe relocated here during the British colonial period.

Despite being the administrative headquarters of the North and Middle Andaman territory, Mayabunder is a small town with limited tourist infrastructure. English is not widely spoken by the locals, so if you don't know Hindi or Bengali, obtaining information may primarily rely on inquiring with the staff at your hotel.

The coastline of Mayabunder is adorned with mangroves, and its beaches are not as popular as those found on other islands. However, Karmatang Beach stands out for its scenic beauty, boasting a long stretch of gray volcanic sand and shallow waters.

If you plan to stay in Mayabunder for an extended period, it's worth exploring the secluded islands nearby. These islands offer jungle experiences and incredible snorkeling opportunities. Overall, Mayabunder may not be a typical tourist hotspot. However, it appeals to travelers seeking a close-to-nature experience away from the crowds.
